Byebye Blue Argon-S!
Yeah, my pentium M lappy shall be owned by a new owner soon. Still yet to be sold but I left it to my programmer friend as he offered to help me sell my 1yr and a month laptop. He told me to get rid of it as soon as possible as most laptops nowadays are damn cheap and someday, I don’t wanna hear my lappy’s value would become so cheap that I would only give it to a new owner just to get rid of it.
Anyway, I’m planning to get either a Core Duo or Core2Duo processor but depends on the price. Reasons why must get a notebook pc with at least CoreDuo processor:
- A replacement for my desktop PC when it dies off someday.
- SinceI’m into graphics designing, it would be better to have a dual core processor as I am planning to learn 3D designing soon.
- It’s easier to carry when moving a place to stay or travel.
- Not space consuming.
- Many more.
Specs with at least:
- Intel Core Duo
- 80gb hdd
- 512mb ram
- 14″ screen
- etc.

You should take a look on Dells Vostro line. It’s business line but you can order it as private person too (just enter a company name xD).
One of my friends have it and it’s awesome:
WSXGA 15,4″ display
Core2Duo t7500
2GB RAM
160GB HDD
256MB M8600GT graphics
And that for 1100€ Other notebooks with THAT kind of stuff inside normaly cost around 1500€+++
Fujitsu Siemens is good and cheap as well.
Toshiba has shit support and quality isn’t that great either, Sony is so so.
Would recommend either:
Dell, Fijitsu, Samsung or Lenovo(REAL business notebooks)

Vostro line has also 14,1″ screens, just check their site, and they have of course cheaper offers as well. The one I wrote is really a full fledged game and multimedia desktop replacement.

Ah, didn’t hear to much good things about Acer in terms of quality, however they are cheap I agree. You should definitely upgrad RAM to 2GB, prices are as cheap as they weren’t since a LONG time.
hmm…but I think it depends on how you take care of your laptop… not to use it 24/7, nonstop. yeah i’ll upgrade it to 2gb. and it’ll be good for hopefully 6-8 years of use.
6-8 years? I can definitely tell you “no”. At least not with Acer. For such a long time I’ve heard only of IBM (Lenovo) being able to run. A friend of mine works in IT business and they use Lenovo only. His sister has an IBM from him which is 5 years old and runs and runs and runs..
I think you’ll be happy with it for 3-4 years if the HDD does not crash. As for my working station here I change HDD every 2 years since the older an HDD get the higher is the risk of crashing suddenly.
But well, if you don’t let it run 24/7 (which I often do with my pc for coding or torrents etc.) it should definitely run a long time. Or so I hope for ya
